KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): An Iranian woman was sentenced by an Afghan appellant court to 14 years in jail on the charge of drug trafficking, the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) announced on Saturday.

Counternarcotics police detained the Iranian citizen with three kilograms of heroin that she was trying to smuggle into her country through the Islam Qala dry port in western Herat province.

A statement from CJTF said she was convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison during an open trial on the basis of evidence. She had a defence lawyer to plead her case.

Under the relevant law, the convict can appeal to the Supreme Court.

Another Iranian woman was sentenced by a primary court to 20 years in jail on June 4, 2011 on the charge of trafficking more than nine kilograms of drugs.
