MAIDAN SHAHR (PAN): A group of 20 Afghan students hailing from central Maidan Wardak province is being sent to Turkey for higher studies, officials said on Thursday.

The students would study in higher education), Governor Mohammad Halim Fidae told a press conference in Maidan Shahr. The PRT head was also present on the occasion.

The governor saw education for Afghans the only way to keep the youth away from the ongoing conflict in the country. “Unfortunately, Afghans living in our neighbouring countries are sent to their homeland for destructive activities, instead of helping them to get education and play role in the country’s rebuilding,” Fidae said.

The governor thanked the PRT officials, saying the team was playing a major role in the country’s reconstruction, police training, health facilities and other welfare projects.

He said a number of Afghan officials had received training in Turkey as part of the Turkish PRT efforts at capacity building of government functionaries.

The PRT head said students who had obtained high marks in an examination were being sent to Turkey for higher studies.

The governor’s spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid, said 220 high school graduates had taken the exam. Of them 20 were selected for higher studies in Turkey, he said.

The 20 students would first learn Turkish language for one year and then start studying for next four years, he said.

The provincial council chief, Mohammad Hazrat Janan, praised the PRT for sending Afghan students for higher education abroad.

One of the students, Nasrullah, said the exam was conducted in a transparent way.
