CHARIKAR employee were killed, and another ISAF soldier injured, in a shootout in central Panjshir province, officials said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Saturday morning in the Hesay-e-Dowum district of the province when US soldiers opened fire on National Directorate of Security (NDS) employee. When the NDS employee returned fire, he himself was killed along with two ISAF service members, one of them a civilian, and one ISAF soldier was injured, provincial council chief Ata Mohammad Amiri told Pajhwok Afghan News.

An NDS official confirmed the incident on condition of anonymity.

Ataul Haq, 29, an eyewitness, said the NDS employee was waiting for a car by the side of the road when US soldiers suddenly opened fire on him.

But Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the Taliban had attacked the international forces’ patrol in the Hesay-e-Dowum district, killing 3 US soldiers and injuring four others.

He said the clash lasted an hour, leaving a Taliban fighter dead and two ISAF vehicles destroyed.

ISAF also confirmed the shootout, saying one ISAF soldier and one ISAF civilian were killed, and another ISAF soldier injured. In a statement delivered to Pajhwok Afghan News, ISAF denied shooting first.

This is the second recent major security incident in Panjshir. In June, Italian national Cristian Congiu was beaten to death by locals after firing at a resident of the Mukni valley of Khinj district of the province.
