Gen. David Petraeus was given the award in recognition of his services to Afghanistan commander, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
Dr. Sadiq Mudabir, the head of the administrative affairs office, read out Karzai’s statement at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace. He said Petraeus had been honoured for his valuable contribution.
During his tenure, the commander worked diligently for building the capacity of Afghan security organs and acceleration of the transition process, the official said.
Karzai wished Petraeus, who is set to take over as Central Intelligence Agency director, success in his future assignments.
