KABUL): More than 226 tonnes of poppy seeds were seized during an operation in the northwestern province of Nimroz, the Ministry of Interior in Kabul said.

The poppy seeds were seized by Afghan police with the support of US-led coalition forces in Dilaram district, the ministry said in a statement.

Separately, two tonnes of ammonium nitrate and hashish were recovered in a similar operation in the Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province. The drugs and fertiliser used to make explosives were burnt.
