MEHTARLAM (PAN): Three people have been killed and six others wounded during an ongoing clash between two tribes in eastern Laghman province, a police official said on Friday.

Both tribes are using light and heavy weapons during the clash over a wood and pistachio forest in Daulat Shah district, Rahm-i-Khuda, the district police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Police have reached the scene along with tribal elders to secure a ceasefire, he said. The warring tribes, having taken positions on mountaintops, are exchanging trading fire.

Resident Hazrat Noor feared the death toll could be higher, because the fierce fire exchange had been ongoing since last night. He urged the government to take effective measures to end the fighting before it spreads to other areas.
