KABUL): A member of the Pakistani-based militant group Tehrik-i-Ansar-ul-Islam has been arrested in eastern Nangarhar province, the Afghan spy agency said on Saturday.

Sahibzada, using the pseudonym of Shakir, a resident of the Khyber tribal region, was detained near the Torkham port, while returning to Pakistan, the intelligence service said.

During interrogations, the detainee confessed to involvement in disruptive activities in Nangarhar, a statement from the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said.

Salahuddin, a commander of the Tehrik-i-Ansar-ul-Islam, had sent Sahibzada to Afghanistan Juma, Shah Wali, Abdullah and Gulbadin.

Elsewhere in the province, Mullah Nawab, commanding a 10-member Taliban group, was held in the Kohsan district.

Two men — Naeem and Ali Reza — were arrested on the charge of kidnapping an 8-year-old boy, Tawfiq, son of Ghulam Sarwar. The captors released Tawfiq after receiving $20,000 in ransom, the statement concluded.
