QALAT (PAN militants, including their local commander, were killed during joint operations by Afghan and foreign forces in the southern province of Zabul, an official said.
Involving coalition troops, the offensive was conducted on the basis of an intelligence tip in the Akhtar village between Shah Joi and Arghandab districts late on Sunday night.
Mohammad Siddique, the Shah Joi district chief, identified the dead Taliban commander as Mohammad Khan. Security forces and civilians suffered no causalities, he said.
Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman said, claimed the fighters had killed several Afghan and foreign soldiers during face-to-face combat and bomb attack in Shah Joi, Shahr-i-Safa, Nawbahar and Atghar districts the province.
However, the claim was rejected by officials.
