GHAZNI CITY (PAN): A man was arrested with explosives during an overnight operation in the Qarabagh district of southern Ghazni province, a military official said on Tuesday.

The man was detained in the Lewanai Bazaar area of Qarabagh, Col. Daud Shah Wafadar, a 303rd Thunder Military Corps commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The official said arms and explosives were recovered from the detainee’s shop in the area. “Those dealing in such things are involved in fuelling insecurity and playing with people’s lives.”

Ghazni police chief, Col. Zarawar Zahid, said Afghan Taliban and foreign militants had recently stepped up operations in the district. The fighters had sneaked into Qarabagh from neighbouring districts, he added.

Situated on the Kabul-Qandahar highway, Qarabagh is one of the restive districts of Ghazni.
