FARYAB: Two Taliban were detained during two separate incidents in Faryab province, an official said Thursday.

Cap. Sayed Masood, the provincial police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban militants attacked a police checkpoint last night in the Tagab Shan area of Garzivan district. Garzivan district chief Abdul Ghani confirmed the incident, adding that two people had been taken to provincial headquarters for questioning.

However, a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, said that during a clash with police, in Garzivan district, the fighters killed three policemen and injured two.

GHAZNI: Two people were killed when unexploded ordnance went off inside a scrap shop in the southern province of Ghazni, officials said on Thursday.

The explosion took place late on Thursday in the Kala Sabz area of Ghazni City, killing the shopkeeper and a passer-by, the provincial police chief said.

Col. Zarawar Zahid told Pajhwok Afghan News police had been sent to the area to investigate the blast. He gave no more details about the incident.

A teenage boy and an elderly man had been brought to the Ghazni Civil Hospital, Dr. Ismail Ibrahimzai, the hospital director, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

LOGAR: One militant was killed by his own explosives while attempting to plant a mine last night in the Zahid Abad area of the Mohammad Agha district. Provincial police chief Col. Ghulam Sakhi Roghlivanai said the attacker had been planning to target a joint Afghan and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) convoy.
