New police chiefs named for Zabul, Uruzgan

KABULinfo-icon(PANinfo-icon): New police chiefs have been appointed for central Uruzgan and southern Zabul provinces, officials said on Monday.

Col. Fazal Ahmad Sherzad, the Uruzgan police chief, has been transferred to Zabul in the same position, the Ministry of Interior said.

Based on a request from the ministry, the Presidential Palace approved the appointments. Col. Matiullah, reserve police commander in Uruzgan, has been made the provincial police chief.

On Sunday, the National Security Council discussed last week's protest in Zabul against the alleged insult to the bodies of the Talibaninfo-icon, who were killed in a clash with police.

Karzai ordered the dismissal of Hidayat, the provincial city court judge who ordered the exhumation of Taliban's bodies,, and Abdul Nabi Elham, the police chief.
