Army general to lead investigation into helicopter crash

WASHINGTON (PANinfo-icon): US Army Brig Gen Jeffrey Colt will lead an investigation into the crash of a CH-47 Chinook helicopter in Afghanistaninfo-icon that killed 38 US and Afghan service members.

The head of US Central Command (CENTCOM), Marine Corps Gen. James N. Mattis, said Colt, deputy commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division, will begin his duties immediately.

Officials in Afghanistan believe a Talibaninfo-icon rocket-propelled grenade shot down the Chinook as it brought 25 Navy and Air Force special operations personnel to an August 6 firefight in central Afghanistan’s Wardak province.

It was the deadliest single incident for foreign troops in the decade-long war in the country.
