Rocket lands near Presidential Palace

Rocket lands near Presidential Palace

Aug 17, 2011 - 10:17

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): A rocket propelled grenade (RPG) fired from an unidentified location landed close to the Presidential Palace in Kabul Tuesday night, inflicting no casualties or losses, security officials said Wednesday.

Col. Zahir, head of the criminal investigation branch at the 101 Asmaie police headquarters, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the rocket landed opposite of Amani high school north of the Presidential Palace.

The midnight rocket attack caused no casualties, and an investigation has been launched to ascertain where it had come from, he added. Two US army offices as well as the embassies of France and the UAE are also in the area, he added.

While police officials blame armed opponents for the episode, no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
