Temporary bridge inaugurated in Kunar

Temporary bridge inaugurated in Kunar

Aug 17, 2011 - 18:06

ASADABAD (PANinfo-icon): A temporary bridge on a river was inaugurated in the Watapur district of eastern Kunar province on Wednesday, officials said.

Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi and ISAFinfo-icon commander in the eastern zone, Col. Kaim, attended the inaugural ceremony for the 40-mentre bridge that connects three districts of Kunar and parts of Nuristan with Asadabad, Kunar's capital.

Funded by the Provincial Reconstructioninfo-icon Team (PRTinfo-icon), the bridge, weighing 80 tonnes, took three days to install, Wahidi told Pajhwok Afghan News. He thanked ISAF soldiers for resolving the transportation problem of Kunar and Nuristan people.

A resident of Watapur district, Mohammad Islam, hoped a permanent bridge would be constructed soon. He said a retaining wall on both sides of the bridge should be built to protect the structure from flooding.
