HERAT CITY (PANinfo-icon): A woman was killed and 10 others were injured as a result of a powerful bomb blast in the western province of Herat on Friday, police and hospital sources said.

The explosion occurred in front of the police headquarters in Herat City, the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Syed Aqa Saqib, told Pajhwok Afghan News at the site.

Policemen suffered no casualties in the remote-controlled blast, which killed a civilian and wounded four others, according to Gen. Aqa, who said the explosive device had been placed in a hand cart.

But Dr. Barkat Mohammadi, in charge of the emergency ward at the Herat Zonal Hospital, said they had received 10 injured people. Two children and a woman were among the injured, he said.
