18 prisoners released from Zabul jail

Sep 06, 2011 - 17:07

QALAT (PANinfo-icon): Eighteen prisoners were freed from the central jail in southern Zabul province in compliance with a presidential decree issued on the occasion of Eidul Fitr and the 92nd Independence Day, officials said on Tuesday.

Fifteen people were released from the central jail and three from a Kochi tribesmen training and reform centre, with another three inmates getting their jail terms reduced in line with the decree, said Rozi Khan, an official of the provincial justice department.

Fazal Mohammad, one of the freed detainees, said he was happy with good behavior of jail officials. However, he said the inmates faced with lack of space and harsh weather conditions in the prison. He urged the government to make efforts at resolving detainees' cases as soon as possible.

Mohammad Jan Rassoul, the deputy governor, urged the detainees to play a positive role in the societyinfo-icon and avoid illegal activities
