18 insurgents killed, weapons seized

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Eighteen insurgents were killed during separate operations by Afghan forces over the past 24 hours in deferent parts of the country, the interior ministry said on Saturday.

Backed by coalition troops, the forces detained another 21 fighters in Kabul, Nangarhar, Kunduz, Kandahar, Helmand, Kunar, Baghlan, Badghis and Khost provinces.

A statement from the ministry said police also seized 55 AK-47 rifles, one rocket-launcher, two machine guns, three pistols, two radio handsets, 125 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, six rounds of anti-vehicle mines, two hand grenades and 50 kilograms of explosives.

Police discovered and defused 20 kilograms of explosives, besides seizing five rounds of anti-vehicle mines, one pistol, 10 rocket launchers and three artillery shells in Kabul, Helmand, Jawzjan, Baghlan and Paktia.
