MAZAR-E-SHARIF (PANinfo-icon): Seven people, including four womeninfo-icon, were killed and five others wounded in a roadside accident on the Balkh-Jawzjan highway, officials said on Saturday.

The head-on collision occurred in Khanabad village when a Mazar-i-Sharif-bound car rammed into a Kamaz truck, Brig. Gen Abdur Rauf Taj, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Police rushed to the area to take the victims to the Mazar-i-Sharif Hospital, he said, adding the wounded were in stable condition. He said increasing traffic violations and drivers' inexperience led to major road accidents.

A resident at the site said: "The speeding car ploughed into the Russian-made truck, killing all passengers." The truck, laden with gravel was not damaged, according to the witness.
