8 rebels killed, weapons recovered

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Eight insurgents were killed during separate operations by Afghan forces over the past 24 hours in deferent parts of the country, the interior ministry said on Monday.

Backed by coalition troops, the security forces detained another 11 fighters in Kabul, Baghlan, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Maidan Wardak and Logar provinces.

A statement from the ministry said three AK-47 assault rifles, 36 kilograms of explosives, four radio handsets and 72 kilograms of narcotics were seized.

Police defused three anti-vehicle mines in addition to recovering two kilograms of gunpowder and 20 kilograms of explosives in Kabul, Parwan and Kandahar provinces.

In the Nad Ali district of Helmand, police discovered 72 kilograms of opium.
