School closed for distributing profane CDs to students

Sep 16, 2011 - 15:31

HERAT CITY (PANinfo-icon): A private school was closed and its administrator arrested in western Herat province on the charge of distributing sacrilegious CDs to students, officials said on Friday.

The action was taken on the basis of complaints from local people and a committee would look into the issue, said Abdur Rehman Azizi, deputy director of educationinfo-icon.

A number of profane CDs were distributed to students of fourth and sixth classes at the Tawhid Private School in the Bagheecha Mehtar area of the city, Azizi added.

The CDs contained blasphemous material about Caliphs Hazrat Umar and Hazrat Ali, as well as his spouse Hazrat Fatima, according to the official.

Religious scholar and deputy head of the Herat Ulemainfo-icon Council Maulviinfo-icon Muhammad Kababyani said the act was an attempt to divide Muslims and the government must foil such efforts.
