JALALABAD (PANinfo-icon): A high-ranking US embassy official paid a visit to Surkhrod district to inspect ongoing reconstructioninfo-icon projects in eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday.

Ambassador Richard Olson, coordinating director for development and economic affairs (CDDEA) at the embassy, met the district chief, police head and Community Development Councils (CDCs) chiefs behind closed doors.

Amid tight security, he also visited the district bazaar and a healthinfo-icon clinic, whose construction work, funded by the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRTinfo-icon), began a week ago.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News that the US embassy and government were interested in the district, which was secure, developed and poppy-free. He promised to share with his government the problems of the town’s officials and tribal elders.

District chief, Syed Ali Akbar Sadaat, said they had requested the ambassador for the construction of a dam on the Surkhrod River, schools, clinics and irrigation system.

“I am glad that our district is peaceful, dozens of reconstruction projects are underway and top officials can visit the district,” he concluded.
