21 rebels killed in Helmand offensive

LASHKARGAH (PANinfo-icon): Twenty-one insurgents have been killed during an ongoing Afghan-ISAFinfo-icon offensive in southern Helmand province, officials said on Friday.

US Marines and Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers are taking part in the joint operation that began in areas between Sangin and Kajaki districts four days ago.

The governor's spokesman, Daud Ahmadi, told Pajhwok Afghan News 45 landmines had been recovered and defused during the operation aimed at clearing the areas of militants.

One ANA soldier has been killed so far. The joint force was setting up security posts along the Sangin-Kajaki road, said a brief statement from the 215th Maiwand Crops.
