ASADABAD (PAN): Two teenage cousins were killed and their 16 others family members wounded after a rocket hit a house in the Matongi district of eastern Kunar province, an official said on Saturday.

The insurgents fired the rocket targeting a US military base, but it missed the target and hit a house in Nangalam area, the district chief, Haji Hayatullah told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The cousins, ages 14 and 15 years, were killed in the incident, but another 16 people were injured when area people ascended the house’s roof that caved in, he said. The house is 500 meters from the US military base, the district chief said. The injured, including women and children, are relatives of the deceased.

Those buried under the debris were immediately pulled out by area people, said Yar Pacha, a relative of the victims.

He said some of the injured were rushed to nearby hospital in critical condition.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
