Maidan Wardak tribal elder gunned down

MAIDAN SHAHR (PAN shot dead the deputy head of the Jaghatu district council in central Maidan Wardak province, officials said on Tuesday.

The incident took place late on Monday evening in the Bargholi area of the district, Shahidullah Shahid, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Azizullah, the victim, was taken out of his home and his body later found dumped at  a roadside in the area, he said.

The assailants made good their escape, with security personnel investigating  the case, he added.

Governor Mohammad Halim Fedayee denounced the assassination, saying Azizullah would share residents’ problems with the government.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for killing the deputy head of the local council.
