Drugs seized, rebels detained in south

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): A combined Afghan and coalition security force discovered a drug cache and a marijuana field during a patrol in the Shah Joy district of southern Zabul province, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) said on Friday.

Officials were unable to determine the weight of the marijuana growing in the field, but the size of the field was estimated at about one and a half acre. The cache yielded 200 kilograms of marijuana. The drugs were destroyed on location, an ISAF statement said.

In the same district, coalition soldiers discovered a weapons cache which consisted of machine gun and small arms ammunition, three rocket-propelled grenades, one illumination round, 20 kilograms of explosives and various improvised explosive device components.

A number of suspected insurgents detained during an operation in Musa the Qala district of Helmand province. The operation was aimed to capture a Talibaninfo-icon leader, directs roadside bomb and ambush attacks against coalition forces.
