JALALABAD (PAN): The Europe-based Spoghmai Cultural Association honoured the Nangarhar border police commander, Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel, with a green award on Monday.
Speaking at a gathering held in this regard in Jalalabad, Border and Tribal Affairs Director Baryalai Gardiwal thanked the association for acknowledging Amarkhel’s services.
Afghans needed people who could win their hearts and minds, he said. Writers and journalists in the eastern zone urged Amarkhel to work for talks with militants.
According to Amarkhel, he was in Kamdesh district of eastern Nuristan province when members of the association came from Europe to honour him. Whoever concealed information from media would fail in their mission, he added.
“I am not working for any particular group; I am a servant of the nation,” the official said in response to calls for facilitating talks between the government and militants.
