Taliban leader killed in Logar

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed a Talibaninfo-icon leader after he attempted to seize the weapon from a member of the force in Baraki Barak district of central Logar province on Friday, the alliance said.

Maulviinfo-icon Sahib, the Taliban leader, was found hiding inside a compound during a search operation by the force in the district. Upon being discovered, Sahib lunged toward a member of the force and attempted to seize his weapon.

Assessing an immediate threat, the security force fired, killing Sahib, the International Security Assistance Force said in a statement.

It said the leader distributed weapons and ammunition to insurgent fighters for use in attacks against Afghan forces. 

Another Taliban leader was captured in Nahr-i-Siraj district of southern Helmand province, the statement said. The leader received shipments of weapons from Pakistaninfo-icon and distributed the weapons to senior Taliban insurgent leaders in Helmand and Kandahar, it said.

The joint security force confiscated bomb making material and detained multiple additional suspected insurgents during the operation.

Multiple suspected insurgents were detained during an operation by a combined Afghan and coalition security force in search of a Taliban facilitator in Panjwai district of neighbouring Kandahar province. The facilitator conducts roadside bomb attacks and moves explosives throughout Panjwai and Dand districts, the statement said.

A separate combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during a operation conducted in Maidan Shahr district of central Maidan Wardak province. The leader supplied weapons to fighters and coordinated attacks against Afghan forces

A Taliban facilitator was detained during an operation in Zurmat district of southeastern  Paktiya province. The facilitator provided a safe haven for insurgent leaders and fighters in Zurmat district, and moved fighters and weapons. Two additional suspected insurgents were detained during the operation, it said.

In Sabari district of southeastern Khost province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Haqqani leader. The leader directs attacks against Afghan forces and distributes explosives throughout Sabari district. Two suspected insurgents were detained during the operation.
