KABUL): Investors from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) planned to construct a dry port in eastern Nangarhar province to facilitate Afghan traders, an official said on Sunday.
The port is being constructed over a vast area of 150 acres in Jalalabad city, Da Afghanistan Bank governor Noorullah Dilawari told reporters in Kabul.
The central bank and the UAE investors had a verbal agreement to the effect, he said, hoping construction work on the port would soon be started.
Noorullah did not mention the project cost, but added construction work would take a year to complete.
“Almost 90 percent of Afghan traders make their business deals in direct cash transfers, but the central bank wants these transactions be made though banking sector,” he said.
