KABUL): The biggest-ever shopping centre, a $22 million (1,078 million afghanis) project, was opened in the Afghan capital Kabul, an official said on Monday.

Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) head, members of parliament and traders participated at the inaugural ceremony for the shopping mall that was inaugurate in Shahr-i-Naw locality.

Up to $12 million were spent on construction of the eight-storey building, with  merchandise worth $10 million. The mall has construction, electronic materials, daily-use items and a gym, Mansoor Majeed, the centre owner, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The centre would serve as a great asset in the country’s economic improvement , the ACCI head Mohammad Qurban Haqjo said.

He asked the government to ensure security for the capital of traders to encourage other Afghan and foreign investors to invest in the country.

Majeed said he planned establish similar business centres in Herat City, Mazar-i-Sharif, and Jalalabad in the future.
