Provincial council in Faryab failed to serve: Nusrat

MAIMANA (PAN): Deputy Head of provincial council of northwestern Faryab province admitted the council had failed to serve people and said concerns of residents in that regard was correct.

Most of the council members were unaware of their duties of monitoring local government departments, discussing problems of people and giving them advice, Syed Haroon Syedzada, chief-editor of Kurash publication told Pajhwok Afghan News.
“Members of the council are not performing their duty related to local government departments, but visit them to get passport, license and solve other problems of their relatives,” he said.
Abdul Baseer, resident of the province while criticizing performance of provincial council said they were mostly busy in private activities while one could see members of the council sitting with heads of those departments to solve their personal problems.

“Members of the council are not united in their ideas and they are acting individually,” Abdul Samad Majidi, an activist of civil society in the province said.
Ahmad Shah, a shopkeeper from the province has no idea about the location of provincial council office and excluding head of provincial council, he does not know name of any member of the council.

“Members have done nothing, so most of people do not know their names,” Ahmad Shah said.  
Nasima, a government employee said although those members had promised their voters for provision of facilities during their election campaign, but they had forgotten everything now.

They had nominal presence in official gatherings but in fact they had lost their credibility among the people, she said.
According to Muhammad Naseem Rafat, another resident of the province, the governor had influence over the council which had kept it in sideline as they had not seen any action from the council against the wishes of the government authorities.
Abdul Ghani Nusrat, Deputy Head of the council said, “We are unable to work under the law and demand of the people due to certain problems.”
Regarding the differences of ideas in the council, he said sometimes the council had no unanimity over the location of a project and every wanted to implement the project according to his own wish.

He rejected the allegation the members were busy in their private activities.
