KABUL (ARCS) Head, Fatima Gilani, on Tuesday said the number of volunteers with the society has reached 46,000 across the country.

The year 2011 has been named as movement of Iinternational Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers, she told a ceremony held in this regard

She said the volunteers had a key role in providing relief services to areas where others had failed to do so.

“ARCS has been cooperating with the Afghan government. We will send our volunteers to all parts of the country for vaccinations and providing relief goods to affected people during natural disasters,” Gilani said.  She also thanked the volunteers for their help to mitigate the sufferings of poor families.

Also present at the conference was International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation head in Kabul, Markus Cott, who thanked the volunteers for their services.

“Without your cooperation, the ICRC cannot send aids to the affected families, particularly to the displaced,” he told the participants.
