30 militants killed, 10 detained: MoI

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Thirty armed insurgents were killed and seven others detained during joint operations in different provinces over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Sunday.

The operations involving Afghan and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) troops were conducted in Kandahar, Nimroz, Zabul, Paktia, Ghazni, Herat and Farah provinces, the ministry said in a statement, which provided no further details.

During the offensives, 10 anti-vehicle mines, two Kalashnikovs, three rocket launchers, two machine guns two hand-grenades, 10 kilograms of opium, a motorbike, two vehicles, three radio handsets and two pistols were seized.

Nearly 10,000 kilograms of hashish were recovered in the Spin Boldak border town in Kandahar and 21 kilograms of heroin in the fifth police district of Kandahar City.

In central Kabul province, 14 individuals were detained on charges of robbery, murder, carrying illegal weapons and using fake passports. The arrests were made in the 2nd and 15th police districts of Kabul and Sarobi district.

Meanwhile, three Talibaninfo-icon militants were killed and as many others detained during a joint operation in Baghlan-i-Markazi district, police said.

A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told Pajhwok Afghan News the fighters attacked a patrol of security forces in the Tala Barfak area, killing three soldiers and injuring four others. Two kallashinkovs were also seized, he added.
