MPs failed to solve problems of people

KABUL (Lower House) was busy in their personnel affairs and they had spent whole year in mutual conflicts.

Elections of the Wolesi Jirga were held in 2010 while the results were announced two months after, causing demonstrations and criticism by people.

Although the Wolesi Jirga succeeded to start functioning, but even after one year, some of the conflicts are still there.

Members of Parliament (MPs) had not done anything for people and they spent one year in mutual conflicts, Nazar Gul resident of Kandahar province told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Several MPs had won their seats of Wolesi Jirga by using their influence and fraud while now they showed, people interests were not important for them and they were in the House for their personal interests only.

According to Masud Miankhel, resident of central capital Kabul city, Wolesi Jirga was going on the wrong direction from the very first day.

“MPs have not solved their own conflicts, so how they can work for people?” he commented.

The Wolesi Jirga was able to put pressure on the ministries to take steps for a steady workflow and solve problems of people, but it failed to do so, Khalil Rehman, another resident of the city said and added, “MPs have formed few parliamentary groups for their own personal interests which ahs nothing to do with public interest.”  

Saadullah, student of law faculty of Balkh University said MPs were only working in the provinces to show-off as they were not working honestly.

“I am not satisfied with performance of the Wolesi Jirga as they have not done anything effectively and MPs are busy in their mutual conflicts,” Aman Ali a cycle mechanic and resident of Herat city said, adding both the government and their representatives were very weak.

Some MPs have also confirmed those problems and admitted they were unable to serve the people due to it.

MPs were not elected by people to fight each other, but in fact they were there to serve people, Bakhtash Siyawash, MP from central Kabul said

“With deep regret, I want to say there are some key factors and reasons, that is why we are unable to serve people and these must be cleared,” he said, adding the government did not let them to work as Hamid Karzai felt the House would not help the government.

If the Parliament stayed at same position then it would be planned by the government, to discredit the Wolesi Jirga among people.

The deputy spokesman of the President Hamid Alami said the government had not interfered in the Wolesi Jirga affairs and it was trying to create a healthy atmosphere for cooperation among all three pillars of the state.

The Presidential office had always welcomed legal demands of the Parliament so far, he added.
