SHBIRGHAN (PAN): Two employees of the appellant court were arrested on charges of bribery in northern Jawzjan province, officials said on Monday.

A National Directorate of Security (NDS) official, who wished not to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News the court officials were detained by intelligence operatives.

Mohammad Akbar, head of the public order department, and Mohammad, public prosecutor, were held with $403.4 (20,000 afs) cash they received in bribes, the source said.

He added the detainees had sought a $1,008 bribe from a community leader in the Kenat area of Shiberghan, the provincial capital.

Abdul Habib Dastagirzada, head of the Jawzjan appellant court, confirmed the arrests. The detainees would be referred to the anti-corruption department if the charge against them was substantiated, he concluded
