SHIBERGHAN (PAN): Two employees of the population registration department in northern Jawzjan province were detained on Tuesday on charges of making fake national identity cards in return for bribes, an official said.

Taimor and Naimatullah, accused of distributing fake national identity cards to people, were arrested by intelligence operatives, the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Aziz Ghairat, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

A National Directorate of Security official, wishing anonymity, said the individuals were arrested red-handed while distributing forged identity cards to people.

Earlier in the day, a senior justice department employee was arrested on the charge of bribery. Abdul Majeed, who heads the human rights section at the department, was held for accepting bribes, the crime investigation branch chief said.
