PUL-I-ALAM (PAN, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) on Friday said the housing problem of nomad Kuchis should be resolved.

Agriculture Minister Mohammad Asif Rahimi, Deputy Minister of Rehabilitation and Rural Development (MRRD) and Deputy Director of the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) visited the province.

Under a decree issued by President Hamid Karzai at the beginning of the current solar year families in the central province, but the process was delayed due to some problems, Rahimi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Land was distributed to Kuchis in three locations of the province, but the tribe rejected plots in three more towns due to insecurity, he said, adding they had instructed local officials to assess the group’s problems.

A Kuchi from Pul-i-Alam, Habib-ur-Rahman, said his tribe was more illegible to get plots in the province, because their land had been grabbed in central Maidan Wardak and Bamyan provinces. He claimed having ownership documents.

Governor Atiqullah Ludin said: “If government land is to be distributed to people, locals are more eligible.” Given the inadequate police strength in Logar, there was a need for deploying a new battalion during the land distribution process, he suggested.

“Some people of the area don’t have even 100 metres square of land in the province, how can the government distribute land to Kuchis,” tribal elder Haji Osman said, believing plot distribution to area residents should be a priority.

Ludin said they would distribute 15,000 acres of land to 3,000 nomad Kuchis in Khushi, Baraki Barak and Mohammad Agha districts, as well as the provincial capital Pul-i-Alam.
