US pledges $4.4m assistance to Zabul

QALAT (PANinfo-icon): US Ambassador to Afghanistaninfo-icon Ryan Clark Crocker on Thursday pledged $4.4 million (217 million afghanis) in assistance to southern Zabul province for reconstructioninfo-icon projects, officials said.

During a visit to Zabul, Crocker met Governor Ashraf Nasiri and other officials on the current security situation and reconstruction schemes, the governor's spokesman, Sharif Nasiri, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Governor Nasiri briefed the visiting dignitary on security, educationinfo-icon, agricultureinfo-icon and economic initiatives taken by his government, the spokesman said. The governor also discussed with Crocker the ongoing peace process.

The ambassador said he was happy Zabul's development and pledged continued US support for Afghanistan, according to the gubernatorial spokesman.

At the end of the meeting, the US envoy and the governor addressed a joint news conference. Nasiri thanked the US and said that they would try their best to use the aid in a transparent manner.
