Pakistan military academy comes under rocket attack

ISLAMABAD: Suspected militants fired a volley of rockets at a military academy in Pakistan’s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa early on Friday, a senior official said.

At least three of the nine rockets hit the boundary wall of the academy in the garrison city of Abbottabad, where Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed by US commandos on May 2, 2011.

Imtiaz Hussain Shah, the city administrator, told a local TV channel the predawn strike caused no casualties. “Three rockets hit the boundary wall of the academy and damaged it partially.”

Speaking to Geo News, the district coordination officer said a search operation was underway in the area, but no one had been detained so far. The six other rockets landed in fields around the premier academy.

A day earlier, at least 20 Taliban border. The offensive was triggered by a rebel assault that wounded more than 22 soldiers.
