SAR-I-PUL (PAN): An angry mob set ablaze some rooms of the governor’s office in the northern province of Sar-i-Pul on Sunday after a protest turned violent, witnesses said. The protesting people were demanding action against the governor’s guards who had allegedly raped a girl.

The protesters had installed a protest tent in front of the governor’s house, but later they tried to enter the building, a witness, told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity.
Security forces guarding the compound opened fired at the crowd, killing several people and injuring many others, he said, but give no figure for casualties.
The witness said later the protestors were allowed to enter the governor’s office, where they set fire to several rooms.
Security and other local officials refused to comment on the demonstration and did not allow reporters to visit the scene.
“The protesters first burnt the guards’ room and the fire then engulfed other rooms at the governor’s office,” another witness, Mohammad Hassan, said.
