LASHKARGAH/MEHTARLAM (PAN): Seven militants were killed during two separate security operations in southern Helmand province, while five Afghan troops were injured in a roadside bombing in eastern Laghman province, officials said on Saturday.
In Helmand, three insurgents were killed during a joint operation that started four days ago in the Kofka area of Nad Ali district, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Daud Ahmadi said the area had been cleared of militants. Another four militants were killed in a separate operation in the Washir district, he said.
Meanwhile, a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, claimed four police were killed in roadside bomb attack in the Sangin district of the province on Saturday morning.
Police official Col. Mohammad Ismail Hotak confirmed the Sangin attack, saying three policemen sustained injuries in the blast that slightly damaged the police vehicle.
In Laghman, five Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers sustained injuries when a roadside blast ripped through their vehicle in the Alishang district on Saturday.
The 201 Selab Military Corps commander in the province, Col. Shah Alam, told Pajhwok Afghan News the troops were on a patrol in the Tarang area when came under attack.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said three Afghan troops were killed and two others injured in the blast.
