MAIDAN SHAHR (PAN): Fourteen prisoners were released and jail terms of another 40 inmates reduced in compliance with a presidential decree in central Maidan Wardak province, an official said on Sunday.

President Hamid Karzai had issued the decree on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the governor’s spokesman Shahidullah Shahid told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The inmates were released from the central prison in presence of Deputy Governor Ali Ahmad Khashighi and officials of security organs, Shahid added.

The deputy governor said every individual had the right to have a free life until he or she did not break the law of the country.

Hamish Gul, a beneficiary of the decree, thanked the President and provincial government for his release, saying he was treated well during his imprisonment.
