TALOQAN/QALA-I-NAW (PAN): Three people were killed when a car crashed into a truck in northern Takhar province, while two children died in a fire in northeastern Badghis, officials said on Wednesday.

The crash occurred late on Tuesday night when a civilian car — going from Taloqan, the provincial capital, to Kunduz province — collided with a truck parked on the highway.

Lt. Col. Ghulam Farooq, the traffic department chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that three occupants of the car were killed and a fourth sustained injuries in the incident.

Abdul Qayyum, the Takhar Civil Hospital director, confirmed receiving an injured man, who was later referred to Kunduz for being in critical condition.

Elsewhere, two children were killed and five others wounded when a fire broke out inside their house in the Aab-i-Kamari district of Badghis. The incident happened late on Tuesday night in the Nahrab area, Col. Mohammad Jabar, the police chief said.

Pad Shah Khan, a doctor on duty at the provincial hospital, confirmed receiving five people with severe burn injuries. He said they were later transferred to Herat province for better treatment.
