KABUL’s under-16 cricket team thrashed Bhutan by huge margin in their second match of the Asia Challenge Cup in Thailand on Sunday.

A spokesman for the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), Nusratullah Wafa, said the national side won the toss and opted to bat first. They piled up 354 runs for the loss  of five wickets in the stipulated 40 overs.

For Afghanistan, Pervaiz Khan top-scored with 131 runs, followed by Abdul Sabur with 55, Javed Ahmadzai 52 and Tariq Khan 51, the ACB spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Chasing the stiff target, Bhutanese batsmen were bundled out for a paltry 43 in the 21st overs, conceding a thumping 311-run win to the Afghans. Sher Muhammad bagged six wickets and Naveenul Haq four for the winners, Wafa added.

Pervaiz Khan was declared the Man of the Match for his outstanding batting performance that went a long way in handing the Afghans their second win on the trot. A day earlier, Afghanistan trounced the Maldives in the opener by 316 runs.

The event in the Chiang Mai city of Thailand features Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates, China, the Maldives, Qatar and Bhutan.
