Rehman Malik told journalists in Islamabad late on Sunday: “After we approached the Afghan president with facts and figures, he was kind enough to look into the issue, promising a stop to insurgent infiltration from the Afghan side of the border.”
Malik said the Afghan leader, during his recent visit to Islamabad, had been told about the infiltration of insurgents into Balochistan from southern Kandahar province. “President Karzai promised to prevent the rebels’ penetration.”
Subsequently, a training camp of 5,000 rebels in Kandahar had been dismantled, with Kabul pledging to curb the cross-border movement of fighters into the border town of Chaman, the minister continued
The government is monitoring activities of Baloch leaders living abroad, according to Malik, who said that they had been trying sincerely to create a positive atmosphere for talks with estranged nationalist leaders.
