Gunman killed in Herat police encounter

HERAT CITY (PAN): Police clashed with a group of illegal armed men in the Injeel district of western Herat province overnight, killing a gunman and injuring another, an official said on Friday.

The firefight broke out in the Kabarzan area late on Thursday night, police spokesman Col. Noor Khan Nekzad, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said the group was involved in robberies, kidnappings and other unlawful activities in the area.

Initially, two gunmen were injured in the incident, but later of one them died of his wounds in a hospital, Nekzad said.

He said another four members of the group were able to flee, but police had launched a search to arrest them.
