KABUL, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) would distribute 60,000 tonnes of wheat to poor families in 20 provinces across the country over next two months, officials said on Saturday.

Nearly 3,000 families had already received assistance under the first phase of the campaign in Paghman district of Kabul province, where each family was given 100 kilograms of wheat. However, residents complained of favoritism in the distribution process, lamenting deserving families were deprived of the food aid.

Agriculture minister Mohammad Asif Rahimi said residents of 20 provinces would benefit from the India-donated assistance.

Kabul Governor Ahmadullah Alizai said 40,000 needy families in 14 districts of the central province would receive the wheat.

Sardar Mohammad, a disabled person, accused tribal elders of giving importance to their relatives and neglecting needy families in the distribution of government aids.
