KABUL under-16 cricketers clinched the Asia Challenge Cup after outplaying Qatar in the last match of the tournament held in Thailand on Saturday.

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) spokesman Nusratullah Wafa told Pajhwok Afghan News the Afghan team won the toss and chose to bat in the 40 overs game, scoring 200 runs all out after facing 37 overs.

Syed Hakim emerged top scorer for the side with 59 runs, followed by Pervaiz Khan’s 52 and Imran Khan with 30 runs.

Chasing the target, the Qataris were bundled out for 108 runs in the 31st over, easily allowing   the Afghans to win the final by 92 runs, Wafa said.  

Javed Ahmadzai took three wickets while Muslim Zazai and Naveed-ul-Haq shared two wickets each.

The tournament involved Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates, China, Maldives, Qatar and Bhutan, and Afghan team remained unbeaten throughout the event winning all their five matches.

 Afghanistan with 10 points wrested the first position.

ACB Chief Executive Nasimullah Danish congratulated the team on their outstanding performance in Thailand.
