KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): A powerful explosion ripped off Kandahar city on Wednesday, killing one intelligence official and injuring three others, including a civilian, an official said.

The blast was carried out by an explosive-rigged motorcycle, at about 12.30pm in the 2nd police district nearby the Herat Bazaar, adjacent to New Market in the city, Zalmay Ayyubi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Alert intelligence officers were investigating the suspicious motorcycle that was parked in the area and cordoned the scene immediately, but the bomb was detonated, believed to be remote-controlled.

The blast happened when a high-ranking delegation from Kabul was holding talks with tribal elders on Panjwai ruthless killing by a US soldier.

He said no delegation members or tribal elders suffered injuries in the blast.

Mohammad Salim, a local shopkeeper, said the incident happened when the intelligence employees spotted the motorcycle in the area and began to investigate.
