The Tokyo conference, scheduled to take place in May, is expected to confer on issues concerning the international community’s assistance to Afghanistan after 2014 deadline when foreign troops would leave the country.
Finance Minister Hazrat Omer Zakhilwal said the Afghan government wanted to present a comprehensive document on its demands and requirements to the participating leaders in Tokyo. He said they needed foreign assistance to improve the governance.
Senior minister Hidayatullah Amin Arsala said they had still many challenges to overcome to ensure good governance in the country. “We can make progress, when we have good governance,” he added.
Zakhiwal said they would ask the world’s community at the Tokyo conference to reveal their level of assistance to Afghanistan beyond 2014.
Although funds for annual budgets are being provided by foreign countries in aid, there is a possibility of cut in foreign assistance in the future.
