LASHKARGAH (PAN): Intelligence operatives rescued 11 people, all from the same family, from the clutches of their kidnappers during an operation in southern Helmand province, an official said on Thursday.

The family, including two women and nine children, had been kidnapped for ransom by an eight-member group from Washir district few days ago, the governor’s spokesman, Daud Ahmadi, told Pajhwok.

The abductors had sought 1.2 million Pakistani rupees in ransom, but the victims were freed by National Directorate of Security (NDS) officials during a raid on a house in the district, he said.

The NDS operatives also recovered five cars, two motorcycles, two Kalashnikovs, one pistol, a number of cell phones and phone connections from the house, Ahmadi said.

The kidnapping group, led by Mirza Muhammad, had been active in the Grishk district and other areas, the gubernatorial spokesman added.

One of the rescued, a 10-year old boy, said they were abducted by gunmen when none of their adult family member was at home.

He sought harsh punishment for the kidnappers and return of the money the gunmen had taken away from their home.
